We purchased this one in November after researching many slow cookers in stores and online. The features of this one with the hinged lid that was also remove-able really appealed to us so that you would not have to put the lid on the counter while adding more seasoning.
The condensation trough at the back works really well. The food is evenly cooked, to perfection!
The ceramic dish and lid can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
The digital display is large, easy to read, and shows how long the unit has been automatically kept on WARM, after the programmed cooking cycle is finished.
Love, Love, Love it ....... so much so, we bought a 2nd one for our son and daughter-in-law for Christmas!
-- Yeah, a real winner! Louise & Gavin

Love this slow cooker. We use if often. Great Size. The only draw back is that the gasket smells of whatever you cook.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes Cleanup a Breeze, But Beware Possible Oil Spillage

Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2012

Verified Purchase

As others have noted, this fryer makes cleanup a breeze. Do your cooking, turn the heating element off and unplug, switch the lever to drain, occupy yourself while you wait for the oil to drain into the storage pan (unit is designed not to drain until the oil has cooled sufficiently), remove and set aside the oil storage container, remove and hand clean the heating element, and clean everything else in the dishwasher! Absolutely awesome!!!

The capacity might be a bit small for some folks and the limited temperature settings might annoy some, but works great for my purposes...

UPDATE 9/9/2012: Well, I've used and enjoyed this product quite a bit since my original review; however, I recently experienced my first episode of the mysterious oil leak during draining that others have also reported. Fortunately, it only leaked out about a cup of oil with the rest making it into the storage container as usual; however, that leaked cup or so of oil created quite a mess... spreading over my kitchen island counter-top, running down the sides of the cabinetry, and ultimately reaching my hardwood floor. Needless to say, I was not happy when I discovered what had happened. As others have noted, the oil reservoir was not over-filled, so over-filling was not the cause. Only thing I can think of that may have been different about how I drained it this time was that the oil had fully cooled over-night before I flipped the switch to drain the oil the following morning whereas I usually go ahead and flip the switch to drain immediately after cooking so that draining happens as soon as the oil has cooled enough to allow draining to begin. Perhaps there is some relationship, but it is purely speculation at this point. Maybe the fully cooled oil drained at a faster rate that somehow caused this problem? Anyway, I figure this issue is worth knocking my review to a four star from the previous five star rating I had given... and now I just need to find the right sized pan to put under this fryer to contain the oil should this happen again...

5.0 out of 5 stars Breadmaking with Emeril

I just received this wonderful machine and want to say it works magnificently....i use only artisan flour or a good quality grain flour and found it to work very well making a wonderful dough and on my first solo flight i made beautiful baguettes that were sumptuous and delicious.A three pound loaf using the Emeril Brioche recipe is an amazing bread to accomplish .The results were without a doubt the largest and most delicious of loaves as well as beautiful to the senses, true artesan quality .i never would have believed this would be possible using a machine..
I bake bread several times a week and have a real love for these machines and feel the two elements just do such a good job and the dual paddles really make a great textured doug.I also love the weight of the paddles and think all in all it is a great value. As an aside my only criticism is the manual and the print which is too light as i have vision problems being of a certain age and the LED is also a bit too small for me but i use whatever can help with seeing how to set and get a good visual for the setting. The entire machine is a wonderful addition to the world of machine baking and kudos to Emeril and T-Fal for bringing this to our world.True gourmet Artesan breads are an easy things to do with this dandy machine...i couldnt be happier...

4.0 out of 5 stars temperature not hot enough >> got another unit

I bought this to replace a T-Fal EZ deep fryer that failed to heat above 320F after a couple of years of use. This new model has the benefit of a digital termperature control--which supposedly is better. NOT! When set to 375F, this unit only hit 355F. When set to 355, it only hit 325F. A shame really, I think the oil reclamation system is great. But 355F is not hot enough for most items. Thankfully, Amazon's return policy is hassle free. Not sure what to buy now though. I think I am done with T-fal though.

If the temperature is right, this unit is worth the extra money over the T-fal. The lid is more solid. The temperature hardware is a lot more solid looking on the heating element. I love the timer feature, although I just used my kitchen oven timer without it. It beeps when the target temp is reached. Great features--too bad the thing didn't work.

Update: Just about all residential deep fryers have a lot of bad reviews. Since I love the storage and filtering system of this T-fal, I decided to reorder another one after my first unit proved defective. Thankfully, this unit cooks to the right temperature. On occasion, the temperature will not be 375F when set to it but if you wait a little bit, the heating will resume and when that cycle ends, the temp will be roughly on target. I think it's VERY crucial to have a non-contact temperature gun to measure the oil temperature. I use it each and every time, just before I drop a new batch into the oil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bread Perfect so far...Baguettes still need tweaking

VERY NICE BREAD, EASY TO USE, EASY TO CLEAN. The two breads I've made so far rose and were cooked perfectly (see picture). I had an decades old Dak bread machine that had my very favorite bread recipe (Drew's Famous Onion Dill Bread, which has cottage cheese, sour cream, dill seed++ LOVE IT). Though the ingredients in this machine are REVERSED compared to my old one, this recipe turned out great in my new machine. Perfectly cooked, lovely MOIST texture (as this bread should be). NOTE: This recipe uses 3 1/2 cups flour, I used 2 1/2 lb weight setting and dough just about hit the glass top so I can't imagine how their 3 lb loaves would fit in this. But the 2 1/2 lb loaf is HUGE... larger than standard bread loaf and quite a bit higher.

The first baguette I tried was their French baguette recipe. Poor things were so small (not longer than my small hand - see picture)... and after a few hours you could sword fight with them without worrying about their breaking. Still.... flavor nice, so I will try increasing ingredients to make larger. I then tried Caraway Rye baguettes using Hodson Mill Caraway Rye box mix I also purchased on Amazon. I used the box's 1 lb machine recipe (2 1/4 cups bread mix)exactly as is, which produced EXACTLY the RIGHT SIZE baguettes, just filling the baguette holders full. Only problem with those was the crust got slightly burnt using the dark setting that baguettes usually need. So next time I'll try Med or Light crust.

SO EASY TO CLEAN. So far, the bottom mixers have separated easily from the bread just by sliding bread out. Almost nothing needed cleaning more than a quick wipe.

So, for general bread and baguette baking, this seems excellent so far. Since I also love the REALLY CRUSTY, DENSE artisan breads, I also purchased La Clouche and the Bread Riser from Amazon (since my house temps always too low to correctly rise bread).

4.0 out of 5 stars Owned this fryer for 952 days -- until it died.

Shortly after buying "Emeril" we wrote the following review:
So easy to clean! The oil filters into a sealed pan automatically when cool.Simply lift our the liner, wash in soapy water and dry and you are set to go again. We have always stored our oil in the fryer between uses.Between oil changes, the oil tends to polymerize making a brown "plastic" coating on the fryer. This can be such a chore to clean that you almost want to buy a new fryer and start again! With the oil gone, it's easy to clean the fryer between uses. My only caution is watching the oil temp light indicator between batches. The light is small. Make sure it is lit before you put subsequent batches in to cook. I am also not sure that it doesn't help to reset the temperature between batches to "remind" the fryer what it is doing.
We have owned any number of fryers over the past 20+ years and love this one the best.
Now, with "Emeril" dead in my kitchen and a new fryer on the way from Amazon -- this time a Waring -- we would like to make the following observations:
1) This fryer really is cost-effective -- we paid $139.53 or $3.58 per month or $0.15 per day to have "Emeril" there when we needed him. Compared to the fryers we owned before "Emeril", the cost per day was about half. But, we didn't buy another "Emeril". Why?
2) To deep fry battered items, a heat of 375 degrees F really is required. "Emeril" would reach 374 after repeated resettings -- he would say he had reached temp. only to find he was sitting at 350 or so -- you can correct this -- just recycle the fryer before you fry and between each batch. But remember to check the temperature with a hand-held thermometer.
3) The oil depth proved to be inadequate for many items -- so we added more oil. "Emeril" can handle an extra cup or two and get it to proper temperature -- following the suggestions in 2. However, once you have done this, you can't use the filter and drain function. So "Emeril's" best function --drain the oil so you can clean the fryer easily becomes void.
4)We have spent the days since "Emeril's" death reading up on fryers. We wanted American-made and found this to be almost impossible to achieve. Essentially all fryers are made in China. So we decided the trade-off was between watts and volume of oil -- more oil, more watts, more time at 375 degrees. We traded a loss of features -- no automatic draining -- for more watts and hopefully higer frying temperatures with a greater oil depth.
Mostly, we hate that another fryer is going to recycling. Is 2 years and 7 months of normal household use all one can expect of an appliance these days?
